Shop space is at a premium so my woodworking buddy Rick and I decided that we needed something to contain our Delta AP075 downdraft mat.
This evolved from a table into a cart that could be configured as a dust collector, rough assembly and gluing, or final finished assembly on a carpeted top...We created two additional tops that would fit over the downdraft mat...The hardboard assembly/glue top covers the downdraft mat with the edgbanding resting on the cart walls and not on the mat...This method eliminates potential damage to the downdraft mat...The carpeted top covers and rests on the assembly/glue top.
We knew most of our work would involve sanding or some type of assembly using electrical tools so an electric multi-outlet was attached at one end...A handle was made and attached at the other end.
The cart needed to remain stationary when sanding or assembly so we added locking 4” swivel casters...This particular style of swivel caster locks not only the wheel but the swivel...Instead of drawers we made full extension trays for the sanding equipment and two removable cases with slide out trays for the coated abrasive sheets and discs.
The entire unit was rubbed down with Tung Oil.
