I made this project a in 2006 It is a project to be hung on the wall and used as a Telephone attendent, (hence the tounge and cheeck “Lackey” It is a reletive simple piece meant to store telephone book (deeper drawer) accecpt paper on both sides (normal size) enough room to write on top of and any size of telephone...not to mention it should look good and be stable (take abuse) which is why it is so made of harder woods
It is made of Ami. White Oak and Maple...It has a classically guided drawer (wood guiding that is attached via sliding dove tail in the side of the drawer enclosure and a groove in the drawer both accecpt a middle piece made of Maple (one of the best classical drawer guide materials because it is hard and fine pored = slides easily) Of course the drawer is dovetailed (I love dovetails look good and are very strong)
The Drawer housing is not only to keep stuff in but the whole thing straight, as the housing has on both ends a sliding dovetail to keep movement of the sold maple top and bottom straight (it can move with moisture changes and not warp … I love sliding dovetails for this job)
As you can see there are some specially cut “bent finger joints” on the sides adding a Art Deco or perhaps even a Jugendstil style to the piece...Not as easy as it looks I can say that much, and it is all cut by hand (the joints)
It is oiled with a colorless “Hard Wax” Oil from Osmo.
I do not have any more pictures of it hanging unfortunately… -i will get on that...I hope you all like it!
